TAIPEI, Taiwan － Taiwan's Economic Daily News reported that Taiwan’s IC foundries were fully loaded. Including TSMC, UMC and VIS(Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation), had greatly increased their orders since the severe earthquake in February.
The report pointed out that, damaged by the earthquake in southern Taiwan in February, the partial production plants of Taiwan’s ICs foundries were shut down. With the production lines were repaired, these main players of ICs foundry are posing to catch up the delayed orders.
In addition to catch their capacities, the upcoming Olympics and the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, also contributed to the recent semiconductor demands.
The report quoted a industrial source that the LCD panel driver IC, set-top box control chip, niche-type memory, non-Apple mobile processors and network processors increased sharply, stimulated by the Olympic and FIFA World Cup.
