With the rise in the number of mobile users worldwide, it has become more common than ever for mobile users to watch videos on their device. According to Joanne Chien, industry analyst with (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a Taipei-based ICT research institute, the expansion of 4G network coverage in Taiwan has transformed the traditional TV viewing experience to tablets and mobile devices.

"Based on the results of a survey conducted in the first half of 2015, we found that 72.9% of online users watch videos on mobile devices at least once a week," says Chien. "Most popular video apps are Youtube (80%), followed by Facebook (34.8%), mobile browser (22.7%), PP Stream (14.3%), Tudou (11.2%), and others (<10%)."

The survey further finds that the top five online video genres watched using mobile devices are: "music video (27.6%)", "Korean drama (23.2%)", "news (19.4%)", "variety shows (19.3%)", and "Taiwan drama/idol drama (18.9%)".

In terms of gender differences, female respondents spent more time watching "Korean drama (34.5%)", "music videos (28.6%)", and "Taiwan drama/idol drama (22.7%)" on their mobile devices, while male respondents prefer watching "news (25.1%)", "lifestyle (19.9%)", and "Western movies (18.9)".

The survey was conducted in the end of February 2015. A total of 2,428 effective samples were collected with a confidence interval of 95% and the allowable sampling error within 1.99%.
