TAIPEI — MediaTek System on Chip (SoC) not only are favored by those so-called white box from China, Taiwan Mobile announced the company's own branded handheld devices lineup Monday, four of which all carried MediaTek chips, respectively.
These products are various from smartphone to tablet, carrying duo-core MT6572, quad-core MT6582 and MT8389. Taiwan Mobile is also testing the octa-core MT6592 will probably be used in its future product line.
Moreover, many first-tier China-based handset vendors are going to unveil their new models powered by MediaTek's octa-core chips prior to the Lunar New Year, along with second- and third-tier vendors to follow up later, according to an earlier report.
Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC) has predicted technology trend in 2014, one of which is that telecommunication companies have more influence on the smartphones' spec, product of which bearing the companies' name is part of it.
MIC also predicted that octa-core, 64-bit processor will be more popular in 2014, while Taiwan Mobile suggested that the lowest spec of smartphone by next June will be carried quad-core processor.
With the fourth-generation mobile broadband network (4G) expected to commence operation in 2014, MediaTek will unveil 4G version octa-core chip MT 6595 on January, which is 6 months earlier than expectations according to a reliable source.
However, there are some adverse factors may affect MediaTek in 2014. Namely, Qualcomm is gooing to unveil octa-core, 64-bit SoC, also Spreadtrum and RDA both released 4G SoC, all rivals of MediaTek.
