TAIPEI, Taiwan－ KMTC, a subsidiary of the Yangming Group,, will unveil its second-phase of the Port of Kaohsiung Intercontinental Container Terminal on September this year. At that time, KMCT will have four berths with a total length of 1,500 meters and expect to raise its annual operation capacity to 2.8 million TEUs.
In 2011, the first Taiwan’s high-tech terminal was started to operate by KMTC and the second-phase of the project is scheduled to complete in September 2014. The fully automatic terminal has an automatic gate system equipped with state-of-the-art control, OCR and monitor system to facilitate the ins and outs of trucks.
In addition, the unmanned automatic container yard is operated with Automated Rail Mounted Gantry Crane (ARMG) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enhance the safety and efficiency. Then needed shuffle moves can operate by the automatic system. According to KMTC, elimination of manual control has shortened the transit time of trailers to 15 minutes.
Moreover, the concept of Green Port is adopted in this automatic terminal, including polar panel on the roof and sewage processing system. Especially the Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) is stalled to supply the shore with power for the ships during berthing to reduce consuming fuel and lower carbon dioxide emissions.
The second-phase of the project is scheduled to complete in September 2014. At that time, KMCT will have four berths and the total length will increase from 960 meters to 1,500 meters which can accommodate four 14,000 TEU container vessels at the same time. The designed annual operation capacity will increase to 2.8 million TEUs.
