TAIPEI, Taiwan－ Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Vice-Minister Su Bo this week led 62 people to visit Taiwan and participate in the “Seminar of Cross-Strait High-Tech Industrial Cooperation.” During the visit, there were also mutual exchanges with Taiwan’s technology industry and discussions about cross-strait technological cooperation.
Attendees at this event included companies, such as Hon Hai, AU Optronics, Gallant Precision Machining (GPM), and HIWIM Technologies.
The members of this group included not only Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officials of all levels, but it also included association and business representatives from the following four major domains: industrial robots, smart terminals, energy conservation and environmental protection, and green building materials. During the past two years, this has been the exchange with the broadest scope between emerging businesses on both sides of the strait.
Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) Chairman Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang stated that the high tech industry is currently a pillar of Taiwan’s economy, and it is continually in a world leading position in terms of competitiveness in cost and value. With the expansion of domestic demand in China and changes in the industrial structure, cross-strait cooperation in high-tech industries is increasingly close.
Su Bo stated that China’s manufacturing industry is currently entering a new stage of development. Beginning in 2010, the scale of the entire manufacturing industry assumed the position of a world leader, and for its future development even more emphasis will be placed on enhancing the core competitiveness of manufacturing.
Through the manufacturing industry, China is making strides toward becoming a powerful nation in manufacturing, while continually promoting innovative development, smart manufacturing development, and green development, Su Bo said.
Since Taiwan and Mainland China signed ECFA, China has become Taiwan’s largest trading partner, and in 2013 the cross-strait trade volume exceeded US$190 billion, which was an increase of 16.7% over 2012.
