TAIPEI, Taiwan — Google is officially getting into wearables by rolling out Android Wear on Wednesday, a version of the operating system designed specifically for wearable devices. To start with, the system is made for smartwatches, and Google is moving actively to make itself the big name in wearables, and seeking cooperation with Taiwanese firms.
Google's Android Wear welcomes APPs' developers to participate, and announced yesterday that the hardware and chipmaker partners including three Taiwanese firms, ASUS, HTC, and MediaTek. It is said that new products will be released in the next half year.
Google has devoted its research and design either in wearables' hardware or system. After Google Glass, the issue of Android Wear that can be viewed as shifting the focus to the wearables' system.
However, Google forcasts that it will work with LG in producing a smartwatch that entitled with “G Watch”, while Google's Motorola will introduce a round face “Moto 360”, and both will be unveiled at the second or third quarter, respectively.
Google also announces its hardware and chipmaker partners, namely, ASUS, HTC, LC, Samsung, Motorola, Qualcomm, Broadcom, Intel, Imagination, and MediaTek.
“Developing wearable is exciting for us, besides voice control, motion sensing. The mind control maybe will be put into practice in the future.” said Jonney Shih, the Chairman of ASUS.
