TAIPEI, Taiwan — MediaTek held the year-end press conference at the Amba Taipei Ximending on Monday, the company’s President C.J. Hsieh announced Joe Chen and Jeffrey Ju as new Co-CEO in an attempt to develop the succession plan. Jeffrey Ju stated that one of the inevitable trends in the mobile market is that smartphone providers start developing its own smartphone chips, “But it has a limited influence on MediaTek from now on, since it has striken a balance between those who develop and those who don’t .”
As a matter of fact, Sony could soon join Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and LG in developing its own smartphone chips. “If they understand Mathematics, there will be no more smartphone providers to develop their own smartphone chips in terms of economic benefit.” Jeffrey Ju said that besides Apple, Samsung and Huawei, other smartphone providers won’t develop their own smartphone chips that actively.
“On the one hand, some smartphone providers may design their own chips. But on the other hand, some of their products may still use our chips.” Jeffrey remarked.
Furthermore, Jeffrey Ju cited that multi-core, multi-media and low-power consumption are three specialties of the company’s smartphone processors.
C.J. Hsieh forecast smartphone, smart home and Internet of Things (IoT) will be three major roadmaps of the company in 2016. “And our company will still enjoy ten percent growth rate in smartphone chips business.”
Nevertheless, echoing the acceleration of mergers and acquisitions in the industry, C.J. Hsieh clarified the fact that both side of the companies’ top executives has never met yet, “MediaTek is open-minded to any possibility.”
