TAIPEI, Taiwan — HTC is going to unveil its latest handset product HTC Desire Eye on Wednesday, which is boasting for its double exposure.
Desire Eye is mostly a mid-range handset, with a 5.2-inch 1080p display, quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board flash storage. What makes it unique, is that Desire Eye will reportedly feature a 13-megapixel cameras on both the front, and rear of the device.
HTC is also reportedly developing a waterproof camera for extreme activities, a direct swipe at camera maker and fellow Taiwanese company GoPro, according to Bloomberg.
According to multiple leaks, HTC Desire Eye is aimed for selfie enthusiasts and being touted as “The Ultimate Selfie Smartphone”.
However, HTC faces pressure from both directions. On the high end, HTC can't compete with the market giants of either Apple or Samsung, which dominate the smartphone business. On the low end, it is starting to see pressure from Xiaomi and ASUS, which offer feature-packed smartphones at more affordable prices.
