TAIPEI, Taiwan — Taiwanese computer makers Asustek Computer Inc. and Acer Inc. remained among the five leading global notebook vendors in February despite a decline in the broader market, according to a local research report.
WitsView, a panel research division of TrendForce Corp., said in the report that ASUS had a 10.3 percent worldwide market share last month, ranking it fourth, followed by Acer with an 8.8 percent market share.
Overall notebook shipments during February totaled 12.3 million units, down 9.3 percent from January, because of inventory adjustments, fewer work days and a tight labor supply, said WitsView Assistant Research Manager Caroline Chen.
She forecast that notebook shipments in March will grow by 17 percent to 20 percent from February on the back of an easing labor supply and rush orders from distributors according to an earlier report.
ASUS also has been recognized as the number-one Taiwanese brand in the Best Taiwan Global Brands Awards 2013. Even in adverse market conditions, the ASUS brand value showed resolve and maintained a steady climb, and is now estimated at US$1.711 billion.

Acer puts emphasis on it has always operated honestly as a law-abiding company, and requires its employees to follow laws and regulations.
Last week, authorities took from the Acer headquarters in Xizhi, Taiwan, the related documents and information. Acer is fully cooperative with the investigation procedures and hopes to clarify the matter as soon as possible.
