HSINCHU, Taiwan - Via Licensing Corporation today announced that MediaTek has joined the impressive roster of global companies participating in Via’s industry-leading LTE (Long Term Evolution) patent pool, which provides a fair, transparent and cost-effective license to all essential LTE and LTE-Advanced patents from Via’s LTE licensors.
MediaTek’s participation in the pool underscores the importance of Via’s LTE Patent Pool, which promotes LTE innovation and adoption by streamlining the licensing of LTE essential patents, reducing the risk of patent litigation, and providing fair and transparent licensing terms for companies implementing LTE technology.
“MediaTek has a strong patent portfolio resulting from its impressive record of wireless innovation spanning numerous technology sectors,” said Joe Siino, President of Via. “We are delighted that MediaTek has joined our LTE pool, allowing us to include MediaTek’s standard-essential LTE patents as part of our license offering.”
Products and services that use LTE technologies include smartphones, tablet and laptop computers, voice and data services, automobiles, and the Internet of Things (IoT). LTE technology is the next generation of wireless connectivity technologies that is being deployed worldwide.
Other participants offering a license to their essential patents through Via’s LTE Patent Pool include AT&T, China Mobile, Clear Wireless, Deutsche Telekom, DTVG Licensing, Google, Hewlett-Packard, KDDI Corporation, Newracom, NTT DOCOMO, SK Telecom, Telecom Italia, Telefonica and ZTE Corporation.
