TAIPEI, Taiwan - Tuesday in Shenzhen after Mediatek announced a new type of 64-bit 8-core processor – the MT6795, Mediatek general manager Xie Qing-jiiang also announced the introduction of a 20nm process product in 2015. Mediatek is also simultaneously preparing to proceed forward with a 16mn process product and continue to collaborate with ARM rather than research and develop their own processor architecture plan. As for inquiries regarding whether or not Mediatek will collaborate with Google on making a Chromebook, Mediatek had no commment.
When Mediatek general manager Xie Qing-jiang was interviewed, he stated that in 2015 Mediatek will unveil a 20nm process product. At the same time, he also stated that in 2015 process technology will also be able to reach down to 16nm in size. As for processor architecture, Mediatek will still use designs supplied by ARM.
Mediatek technology chief Zhou Yu-jun stated that three products will be unveiled at once, and due to the fierce market competition, there must be a greater diversity of products. Furthermore, because Android will have 64-bit edition products by the end of this year, 64-bit chips will be in the mainstream of the smartphone market by the middle of next year.
Zhou Yu-jun emphasized that Mediatek is constantly developing technology and strives to enter the ranks of the world’s leading technology companies. Mediatek’s advantage lies in its multi-media technology, and it will continue to focus on this area. For example, Mediatek recently announced 480 fps full super-slow motion HD technology as well as 120 Hz dynamic display technology.
As for recent rumors that Mediatek will collaborate with Google to supply processors for Chromebooks, Xie Qing-jiang stated that Mediatek currently has no such plans; however, he did not rule out the possibility of this kind of collaboration in the future.
