TAIPEI, Taiwan — National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) opened an Internet of Things (IoT) integration laboratory, aiming at researching possibilities of smart life, and connecting Internet with objects and human beings to make our living environment more digital. The laboratory is sponsored by American semiconductor company ATMEL.
According to NTOU, IoT means to form an Internet between human beings, objects, and equipments through Internet, WiFi, or traditional telecommunication networks. The application ranges from transportation, logistics, health care, smart home, and smart office.
NTOU also gave an example explaining that the course is focused on chipset modules and the integration of applications, as that of in connecting air conditioners, lamps, and refrigerator with Internet so that it will be remote controllable by a handset.
ATMEL donated 50 equipments and 120 experiment models, and will assist NTOU in curriculum and teaching.
