TAIPE, Taiwan－ Acer has opened its Build Your Own Cloud (BYOC) Experience Center on Tuesday at Aspire Park in Taoyuan Taiwan and invited all allies including Apacer, Phison, ATS, Studio X-Gene, EcoLumia, Carry Tech, FutureDial, NTI, CommonWealth Publishing Grup, PILI Multimedia and Wind Music to attend this event, demonstrating the BYOC’s diversity of cross-industry alliance.
Acer Chairman Stan Shih said that BYOC is based on the Acer Open Platform (AOP) through crossing platforms and industries. Moreover, in the spirit of Wangdao, we are calling for partners to join the BYOC ecosystem to build new applications for a better quality of life. The opening of Experience Center means the new fruit of BYOC.
The Acer Open Platform (AOP) is a cloud platform, based on the concept of BYOC, and supports all major operating systems (Windows Desktop, Windows 8 UI, Android, iOS, and Linux) and multiple device types (notebook and desktop PCs, smartphones, tablets and network storage devices). The AOP is not a new concept; in fact, it was the basis of the AcerCloud application services launched in 2012.
Shih said that the opening of BYOC Experience Center represents Acer’s new milestone of entering into the 3rd reform process. The new operating model, BYOC, combines with hardware, software and service to differ from the past business model of selling PC hardware merely.
Now Acer and its allies have created several of services: Apacer and Phison adopt BYOC in memory device, ATS and X-Gene develop jointly smart-vehicle, EcoLumia and Carry Tech create smart homes and the consistent software between FutureDial and NTI.
Moreover, Taiwan’s cultural industries such as PILI Multimedia and Wind Music create health cloud services by cooperating with Apacer and Unilimiter ATEL and e-book cloud platform service with publishing companies including CommonWealth, Business Today, Business Weekly, Global Views Monthly magazines.
Shih added that the idea of global brand joined with geographic characteristics is Acer’s developing foundation since 1992. From now on, the idea of open platform allied with geographic characteristics will be the starting point to team up firstly with Taiwan’s strong SME to form an ecological systems of coexistence. In the future, Acer will look forward to partner with European and Asian companies for BYOC.
